OUR VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are the lifeline of the work we do and are integral to our small organisation being held in such high regard in the local community.
We currently have a number of DIAS volunteers who carry out a variety of roles to support the work we do and are always on the lookout for more. If you would like to get involved, you can do so in one of the following ways:
1.Citizen Advocates: Our citizen advocates are ordinary members of the community who, after undertaking our free induction training, gives a few hours out of their week or month to support a vulnerable person on a one-to-one basis.
2.Short term Advocates: This position is similar to citizen advocacy, however support is generally only provided for a finite amount of time e.g. until a specific issue is resolved. Short-term advocates often work with more than one person at a time.
3.Peer Advocates: Peer advocates are volunteers from the community who want to use their particular knowledge and experience to assist someone going through the same experience e.g. living with a disability, or a medical or learning condition. Peer advocates often form close bonds with their partners, helping them to understand their specific wishes and needs.
4.Board Members/Trustees: Another way to support DIAS is to become a board member or trustee. These voluntary positions consist of attending six formal meetings per year during which members will provide strategic direction, ensuring compliance with charitable governance and long-term sustainability, as well as providing more ad-hoc support to the DIAS team throughout the year.
